Internet keyboard commands

 

Control home moves to top of web page.

Control end moves to bottom of web page.

Tab key moves to next link.

Shift tab goes to previous link.

Alt left arrow goes to previous web page.

Alt right arrow moves to next web page.

JAWS F7 will bring up list of links on the page.  Arrow up or down or you can use the hot letter to go to that link.  Press enter to activate the link and go to that web page.

Press the letter T to go to the next table.

Press the letter F to go to the next form/edit field.

Press the letter H to go to the next heading.

Press the letter M to go to the next frame.

Press the letter B to go to the next button.

Press the letter N to move to the text following the next link.

 

Holding down the shift key with the above letters will move to the previous item.

 

Opening a web page

 

Step one - You can press control and the o key to go directly to step three, or press the Alt key.

Step two - arrow down to open menu choice and press enter.

Step three - type in web address and press enter.

 

Entering text in an edit field

 

Step one - press control home keys to go to the top of the web page and this press the letter f to go to the first form field.

Step two - press enter to turn forms mode on.

Step three - type the text in the edit field.  If there are more than one edit fields, press the tab key to move to the next field.

Step four – When you are through with the form, press tab until you hear some button that will do something like search, submit, go, or okay.

Step five - press spacebar to activate the button and turn forms mode off.

 

Using the JAWS find command

 

Step one - press control F.

Step two - type in the text to find.

Step three - press enter.

Step four – Press F3 to find the next occurrence of the text string.

 

Getting a list of links on the web page.

 

Step one - press insert F7 to bring up list of links.

Step two - arrow down through the links.

Step three - when you get on a link you want to go to, press enter.

 

Moving through a table

 

When you at a web site, there may be a table with information.  Type the letter T to go to the first row and column of the table.

 

When moving through a table, you must hold down the control and alt keys.  These keys with:

 

Home moves you to the top left of the table

End moves you to the bottom right of the table.

Up arrow moves you up a cell.

Down arrow moves you down a cell.

Right arrow moves you right a cell. left arrow moves you left a cell.

Numpad 5 reads the contents of the cell.

 

Downloading a file

 

Step one – Move to the download link and press enter.

Step two – When the download box is loaded, tab to the save button and press the spacebar.

Step three – Press Alt I to go to the download into choice.  I usually choose Desktop as my download area, because it’s easier to move to after the download.

Step four – Tab to the save button and press the spacebar.

Step five – Make sure the close window after download is checked, and once the file is downloaded, exit the webpage, press Windows M to go to the Desktop and find the file to be opened.
